The hard-at-it onballer was one of the candidates for the Bonbeach position, but missed out and has since informed the Burras of his intentions to return to the club.
Ferraro played with the Burras in 2015 and 2016 before leaving for Hastings the year after.
Hepburn joint-coach Jason Olver said Ferraro was quick to commit to the club once he discovered he hadn't secured the Bonbeach coaching job.
"He contacted us straight away and said he'd like to return to the club if we were happy with him returning. And of course we are," Olver said.
"He actually is a great leader, a fantastic leader, especially with the young fellas. And to get a two-point player back to the club of that calibre... they're very hard to find."
Ferraro was senior coach of Hastings - which plays in division two of the MPNFL - for the last two years and will offer plenty of experience to the Burras.
"He's pretty keen to take over the training sessions in Melbourne for our group down there, but we've got a bit to work through on that one. We are just waiting to see what the government says about all those sorts of things before we make any decisions," Olver said.
"He's going to learn a lot off Shane Robertson and then Robert Walls as well. I think it's a learning curve for him for when he gets back into coaching just to take a few things out of what they've got to offer.
"He's like an encyclopedia - he'll just absorb as much as he possibly can to further his coaching career when he goes back to do it..."
The midfielder played high level football early in his career in the under-18 TAC Cup and then the VFL.
Ferraro's father Greg featured in three Central Highlands Football League premierships with Hepburn during the 1980s.
The Burras have been approved 42 player points for the 2021 season, which is the equal least amount in the CHFL but the same allocation they had for this year and also in 2019.
