Police have confirmed a 71-year-old man from Burrumbeet died at the scene, following a collision between a car and a truck at the intersection of Hendersons Road and Avenue Road, to the north of the Western Freeway.
The crash occurred just after 10am and the man lost his life more than an hour later.
The driver of the light truck, aged 44, received minor injuries.
It's believed the male driver was the only person in the car that was struck on the passenger side and came to rest on its roof in a nearby paddock.
Emergency workers tried to save his life at the scene, with an air ambulance arriving, but they were unsuccessful.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said two people were being assessed at the scene in total.
Their gender, age or condition of the other patients is not yet available.
Police said they are investigating if speed was a factor.
