The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning which stretches from Mildura to Bright and as south as Daylesford.
Premier Daniel Andrews took a moment at the daily coronavirus press conference to ask Victorians to tune into the Victorian Emergency app, or to check the SES website.
He warned of "significant rain events in some parts of the state".
"Everybody should be aware of those circumstances," he said.
It is possible that during a six-hour period between 30 and 55mm could fall across western and central parts of the state in the early hours of Thursday.
The rainfall may lead to flash flooding, with a flood watch issues for areas including Maryborough, Bendigo and Stawell.
While spring is often a time for storms, this, coupled with the La Nina event currently impacting Australia means we can expect a damp couple of months ahead.

Ballarat itself could see up to 60mm across the next 36 hours, with forecasts of up to 40mm later today followed by a possible 20mm on Thursday. So far this month, the city has received 18mm, with the average monthly total for October 66mm.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should move outdoor items to a safe place indoors, stay away from trees if outdoors while also look to clean drains, gutters creeks and waterways to avoid possible flooding.
You should also avoid dangerous hazards such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.
