Yates hopes a date change could be in order with the tournament officially on hold for 2021.
Usually held during February, Yates wants the Victorian Country Cricket League to consider a January timeslot.
"I hope (the year off) gives them time to make the changes needed to country week like moving the time of year that they hold it going forward so you have more players able to play," Yates, from Mt Clear, said.
"(It should be) in January before school goes back so you can get the school teachers to play. This has always been a problem for us."
The Ballarat Cricket Association was beaten by the Bendigo District league in the provincial grade decider last season with its total of 8-219 chased down with four wickets in hand.
