The event, which goes from October 19 to 25, aims to expand our knowledge of the different species across Australian regions, as well as encouraging people to understand their local wildlife in more detail.
It is run by Australia's biggest birding conservation charity BirdLife Australia.
To take part, you need to record the species spotted in a particular location during a 20-minute period.
IN OTHER NEWS
Those taking part can do the count several times at different sites and times if they wish.
Local community group The Friends of Canadian Corridor have suggested 13 separate vantage points for birdwatchers to track the presence of bird species in the area.
Lake Wendouree is another area known for its rich variety of different birds.
Those wishing to take part can download a special app or submit it via the official website. Users have strongly praised the app, which includes a field guide to allow the birds to be identified more easily.
