POLICE have described the death of a roadside worker as "devastating", as they urge drivers to take care on the roads.

It comes after a Creswick man was killed after being struck by a car while he was working on the Western Highway, at Trawalla, on Wednesday morning.
Detective Acting Sergeant Cameron Merrett, of the Major Collision Investigation Unit, said the traffic management worker was unloading items from his stationary truck - which was parked in the emergency lane - when he was hit by a Toyota ute driving onto the highway.
The driver of the Toyota, a 39-year-old Lucas man, stopped to assist, however, the 59-year-old Creswick man died at the scene.
The Creswick man was working with a female colleague at the time he was struck, and Detective Acting Sergeant Merrett said she was also assisting investigators to help piece together what had occurred.
The 39-year-old was arrested at the scene and Detective Acting Sergeant Merrett said he was taken to hospital by police to provide a blood sample. He is assisting police with their enquiries.
Police are investigating all factors as to the cause of the collision, while WorkSafe is also conducting an investigation.
"We are not ruling anything out at the moment," he said. "The investigation is ongoing."

Detective Acting Sergeant Merrett said the incident was devastating for everyone impacted.
"A man just going about his business, about to do some roadside work, and then to be struck by another person - it's a tragedy for all involved."
He urged people to remain aware of their surroundings and to always drive to the weather conditions.

Emergency services were called to the scene, at the on-ramp to the highway, about 7.20am.
There was a heavy presence including police, paramedics and traffic management workers at the scene following the incident.
Multiple police units, including Highway Patrol and MCIU detectives, as well as WorkSafe investigators were at the scene piecing together what happened throughout the day.
No charges have been laid.
