The more you think about it, the more absurd it is that no cricket will be played in the Ballarat region this Saturday.

Why? Because the AFL grand final is on and it's a long weekend.
Don't get me wrong, I love footy as much as the next person and I understand the desire for a trip away, but it's staggering that our premier cricket association - and Grenville league for that matter - is willing to take a weekend off just one week into its delayed season.
I applaud the BCA for listening to its member clubs - which were canvassed before this decision - but sometimes you've got to draw the line.
First and foremost, the clash between Richmond and Geelong is scheduled from 7.30pm when all cricket would be over.
And the showdown certainly won't be the big social occasion it usually is due to COVID-19 restrictions still being in place.
Early this year, the BCA was forced to make the tough decision to abandon its 2019-20 grand finals due to the COVID-19 pandemic and has waited for months with uncertainty as to whether or not it will have a 2020-21 season.
Thankfully it got the green light and despite a short delay, cricket finally returned to our sporting grounds last weekend.
It looked a little different with a range of COVID-safe protocols in place, but what a great sight it was to have players back out on the field.
Now, amazingly, the momentum stops for a game of football that's played in the evening and so people can take a holiday.
Sadly, it's a trend of the sport - at least at a community level - to err on the side of not playing when faced with adversity. Sometimes a wet weather forecast is enough to call an end to matches and don't get me started on conceding a grand final early when a side is seemingly beaten late in the contest.
Let's cater to those that want to play cricket and not those that don't.
