Plans submitted to the City of Ballarat and now on advertising show the new business is planned for 145 Creswick Road, which lies on the corner of Johnson Street.
The planning application describes it as a "boutique hairdressing business".

It would be based in the same building currently standing there, with an internal re-fit to take place if the proposal is approved by council planners.
The Ballarat Television and Reception Services store was based at the location until earlier this year.
Under the plans, an existing wire fence would be replaced with a "fence more consistent with the historical character of the neighbourhood."
If approved, the change would be a small evolution among some sweeping changes taking place on either side of the busy dual carriageway, which is one of the major arterial roads into the city.
On the opposite side of the road, north of the 300-place Creswick Road car park which opened last year, two new retail buildings have recently been built and opened. On the south side of Holmes Street is Bolton's Office National supplies, which is now faced by a new RSEA Safety outlet.
The arrival of several retail outlets is viewed as a natural progression by some real estate experts, as businesses can set up in the area without the same level of restrictions in the CBD.
A little further south, on the same side of the road as the proposed hairdressing business, work is already underway for a new retail premises for Haymes Paint, which is moving from its historical shop on Scott Parade.
The site, located at the address on the corner of Claxton Road, was formerly a Honda and Subaru car show rooms, but those businesses have now moved to new locations.
Historically, the main north-south road from the city has had several incarnations, including as the home of foundries and brewers, ironmakers, blacksmiths, factories, houses and schools.
The electronic repairs corner shop had been a feature of Creswick Road from 1986, until it was sold in March this year. According to planning documents, the business provided electronic advice and repairs, as well as selling electrical goods including antennae.
Planning documents also show previous uses of the address - and the ways in which the area has evolved over the past century.
Its longest incarnation, according to the application, was as a butchers from 1910 to the 1960s.

It was also a printers during the 1970s, and a caravan and camping retail store from 1976 to 1985 before it became the electronic services business.
