At the Ballarat Anglican Cathedral the names of those loved ones are read out and prayers offered for their souls.
Music is a critical part of the Christian liturgy and for All Souls Day the Ballarat Anglican Cathedral will deliver a YouTube performance of JS Bach's cantata "Gotte Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit" as part of its service of remembrance.
Also known as "Actus Tragicus" this work focuses on the spiritual journey associated with dying and resurrection. Cathedral and VOX music director Lyndell Allen will co-ordinate the music of the service.
Local vocal group VOX make a welcome return to the cathedral, accompanied by Wendy Rechenberg, to perform the cantata. VOX members, Alison Ho, Amber Van Dreven, Lyndell Allen, Kyle Hackwill and Peter Freund are renowned for their outstanding performances of sacred and secular music, both ancient and modern. Cathedral organist Leigh Askew will provide the remainder of the instrumental music.
The cantata will be premiered on Sunday, November 1st, at 5.30pm. The service can be found on the Ballarat Anglican Diocese YouTube page or at All Souls Day 2020, Ballarat Anglican Diocese.
