Matthew Coolen was known to the woman and, at one point during the attack, she feared he was going to kill her.

He attended the Barkly Street address on March 16 at 11pm because he wanted the victim to return money to his female friend, who also attended the victim's house.

Coolen was carrying a knife in a sheath that was cable-tied to his right ankle when he and his friend rode their bikes to the victim's house.

A police summary states the victim noticed Coolen was drug-affected and she would not let him inside her house.

"The complainant believed the accused would assault her if he got inside the house and slammed the wooden door in the accused's face," the summary states.

"The accused then started banging on the lounge room window and saying, 'Let me in ya dog. Don't call the police'."

A witness heard yelling and screaming before seeing Coolen run towards the victim's door and jump in the air to fly kick the door.

After getting a run up from the victim's front gate, Coolen fly kicked the door a second time, saying "game on bitch".

The summary states the victim was phoning triple-0 in her lounge room as Coolen forced open a garage roller door and kicked open a laundry door to gain entry inside her house.

He then tried to take the victim's mobile phone from her as she was speaking to an emergency services operator. The victim struggled to keep her phone, let go of it and ran to her bedroom.

Coolen followed the woman and cornered her, tried to cover her mouth, pushed and shoved her and threw her on her bed.

"The accused pinned the complainant down on the bed, face down, and placed his knee into the side of her head. The complainant was screaming at the accused to get off her and thinks her friend tried to grab the accused off her," the summary states.

During a struggle, the victim sustained a cut to her right knee, about two-centimetres long, through her jeans from Coolin's knife.

The accused brought the knife around in front of the complainant's throat and pointed it at her throat, telling her to stop screaming and not to phone police.

The summary states the victim was scared and feared she could have been killed.

Coolen then backed off slightly and the victim managed to push him away. Before leaving the house, Coolen's friend allegedly took two bags belonging to the victim.

After the witness continued to hear screaming from the victim's house, he phoned triple-0.

Coolen was arrested in Darling Street, Redan, shortly before 11.30pm. He was not carrying the knife, having dropped it about 300 metres from where he was arrested.

After his arrest, police found six bank cards belonging to the victim in Coolen's backpack. The victim had kept the bank cards in a pillowcase on her bed.

Coolen denied the allegations up until Wednesday when he faced the Ballarat Magistrates' Court for a committal hearing.

Following negotiations, Coolen pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated burglary and the prosecution dropped five charges. He appeared at the court via a video link from prison.

Coolen did not make an application for bail and he was remanded in custody. A plea hearing was set down for February 16 at the County Court in Melbourne.
