A woman accused of stealing a dog and her six puppies has faced the Ballarat Magistrates' Court.
Chrys Jacinta Morrison is accused of stealing a Jack Russell, named Molly, and her six three-week-old puppies from a Cressy property between April 1 and 3, 2017.
It is alleged the Cape Clear woman kept the dogs and told her boyfriend they had been neglected. She allegedly gave one of the puppies to her boyfriend as an early birthday gift.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Repac said in August 2017, the accused had seen a social media post from someone looking to buy a small dog.
He said Morrison sold one of the dogs for $100 to the person at Dereel. Morrison was arrested after she attended the Rokewood Police Station by appointment.
Morrison told police she did not have a reason for the alleged theft, she did not handle stolen goods, she did not steal the dogs or keep them in her possession and she did not sell them.
She appeared at court on Wednesday via a video link from her car where she said she would be denying the allegations.
Morrison will return to court at a later date for a one-day contested hearing.
