With the likes of Christopher Nolan's latest blockbuster Tenet hitting the silver screen, and the upcoming James Bond film, owners are hoping for a surge in business in coming days and weeks.
Co-owner Carly Jones said even though there were limits to just 20 people in the cinema at a time, there had already been some solid bookings and she hoped momentum would continue to build over the coming days.
"We closed at the end of July and finally today we're able to open up," she said. "We could have opened up on Monday, but we decided we'd wait for the start of the movies week on a Thursday.
"Our system is able to book out the cinemas with seats blocked out, but so far it's been really great to see people back."
It promises to be a big weekend of firsts for Showbiz Cinemas with the opening of the Drive In at the Ballarat Showgrounds on Friday night.
The Drive In will be open for the next six months showing new releases and classics.
"We've had such a phenomenal response to the drive-in," Ms Jones said. "Pretty much every session this weekend is almost sold out."
Tickets for the Friday night sessions for Trolls World Tour at 8.20pm and for The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 10.30pm are still available, however tickets for Trolls World Tour on Saturday night followed by Grease at 10.30pm are almost sold out.
The Regent Cinemas in Lydiard Street remain closed until November 26. However, it has opened its doors for gift card purchases only. At this stage there are no specific session times available, but customers are asked to continue to check the website for full reopening details
