The City of Ballarat will oversee construction of the project when work gets underway in December.
Once completed, it will serve as the new home ground for the club's senior first and second grade teams from the 2021-22 Ballarat Cricket Association season and beyond.
"It will do so much for us," Buninyong vice president Stuart Squire said.
"Our supporter base will be able to watch our premier senior teams play at home.
"We've got good clubroom facilities that look out onto the field, so we can maximise use of those as well."
The project, which has been in the works for some time, came about after the club garnered support from various state and local bodies.
While the oval's cement pitch is suitable to hold junior games, Buninyong's senior teams have had to play their home games at St Patrick's College.
"This project will give our junior teams an easier transition to our senior programs," Squire said.
"One of the issues we've previously had is the retention of junior players, and this project puts us on an even playing field with other clubs."
Buninyong's first grade team has been competitive since since it entered the BCA. However it is yet to taste postseason success.
The club will face Darley at Darley Park on Saturday.
