Last season's BDBD Saturday Pennant grand final loss still eats at Victoria.
After finishing at the top end of the ladder, the club was comprehensibly beaten by a red hot Sebastopol in the decider.
"It would have been nice to win the premiership but we played crap on the day," Vics skipper Barry Clark said, wincing at the memory.
"The players want to try and atone for it, you don't like to put in a performance like that after playing well all year."
The 2020-21 season will mark one of redemption for the club, which will open its season against Ballarat Memorial Sports on Saturday.
The Big-V said goodbye to Jesse Thomas during the off-season, but picked up former premier league skipper Shaun Clark. It also added veterans Frank McGuigan and Shaun O'Loughlin to the mix.
"I think we'll be there about, we haven't lost anything and might be a fraction stronger," Clark said.
Clark said early wins would be vital to mounting a premiership run.
