His move to Moorabbin will be full of emotion for the Frawley family.
His late uncle Danny Frawley was legendary St Kilda defender - captaining the Saints from 1987 to 1995 in a 240-game VFL/AFL career.
AFL.com.au confirmed on Thursday afternoon that James Frawley had been secured as a delisted free agent.
The former East Ballarat junior announced his retirement at the end of Hawthron's 2020 campaign - ending a career spanning 139 games at Melbourne (2007-14) and 100 at Hawthorn.
His six years with the Hawks included a premiership in 2015.
He was also an All-Australian while at Melbourne at 2010.
Frawley was drafted from North Ballarat Rebels as pick 12 to the Demons in 2006.
St Kilda announced last week than Dann Frawley's legacy would live on at Moorabbin with the construction of the Danny Frawley Centre for Health and Wellbeing.
The combination of Federal and State Government grants totalling almost $16m, in addition to philanthropic support, means the Danny Frawley Centre will combine a host of facilities, services and programs which will support the physical and mental health of St Kilda people and the community alike.
