More than $2 million worth of roadworks contracts were approved in open council by councillors on Wednesday night - part of a move to consider tenders more publicly.
There were five contracts awarded for projects in different parts of the municipality, including Sebastopol, Buninyong, Ballarat Central and Glendaruel.
Cr Ben Taylor said it was "really great to see these items coming through the chamber".
"To start off the new council term in this way with transparency is a really good move forward."
The total value of the combined construction works amounts to $2.132 million, excluding GST.

They works will take place on stretches of the following roads: Learmonth Street South Service Road in Buninyong; Pickfords Road in Glendaruel; Rowlands Street in Sebastopol; Albion Street, also in Sebastopol; and Errard Street South in Ballarat Central.
Cr Des Hudson said: "Our community doesn't always see the significant amounts that have been awarded in these types of tenders."
He suggested there could be a thermometer published on the council's website, recording the amount of contract awarded to local contractors.
IN OTHER NEWS
The projects include road, footpath and drainage construction and are being funded by the City of Ballarat in this year's capital works program.
Details of the number of applicants as well as the successful contractor were included in the agenda documents.
In a shift to proceedings, the tenders were discussed early in the council meeting. Previously tenders would be considered behind closed doors, or in separate contracts committee meetings then published in subsequent minutes.
