Skipton football manager Chris Gawne confirmed Gilbert had committed to the club and was excited by what the midfielder would bring to the table in 2021.
"He'll bring that enthusiasm, professionalism, quality of football and as a person, from my dealings with him, he's seems a quality young man," Gawne said.
"I haven't seen him play myself, but by all reports, he's a fairly classy player.
"And he'll bring a fair bit of leadership with him."
The Emus had built strongly under Greg Middleton in recent seasons and landed a breakthrough Central Highlands Football League finals appearance in 2019, but have been forced to find a new leader following his resignation from the role this month.
The club could be set to make an announcement on a new coach as early as this week.
