A young Ballarat North combination skippered by Glen Mattei has broken the drought for the club by winning the Ballarat District Bowls Division state men's fours championship.

Michael Clark, Alex Parker, Daniel Nestor and Glenn Mattei reached the final with a one-shot win over a Mt Xavier side skippered by Paul Forrest at Central Wendouree.
They claimed the title 20-8 against Webbcona's Geoff Gullock, Robert Edwards, Wayne Pattie and Colin Young (s).
Ballarat North team jumped out of the blocks in the final, winning the first three ends to set up for success.
Mattei's quartet scored on 13 of the 17 ends to advance to the next phase of the state championship.
North president Scott Plater said this was the club's first win a BDBD state championships final for sometime.
He said it would be a big boost for members.
Ballarat North will play in the region finals in the new year hoping to progress to the state finals in Bendigo on May 4-12.
CLUNES' Valerie Jackson and Smeaton's David Davidson representated the BDBD in the Central Victoria region state novice singles championships at Daylesford.
Jackson had a successful day's play and judged the pace and width of the Daylesford green well throughout the competition
She went on to take out the women's title in final, beating Rebecca Zellshner from Avoca.
Davidson lost the men's final to Avoca's John Hearnden, who took the lead early.
