Sebastopol has many aging residents who no longer drive.
Several banks have been closed.
They are also not always confident using online banking.
They rely on the PO to pay their bills.
Bus services to Delacombe Town Centre are virtually non existent.
To get to Redan PO would also require bus travel.
There is no bus to Mount Clear PO at all.
I use Sebastopol PO on a reasonably regular basis because it is very handy to my home.
Personally I feel that there is enough need for the PO to be retained in Sebastopol and for the establishment of a new PO in Delacombe to cater for the expanding growth westwards of that suburb.
Carol Armstrong, Sebastopol
In Sebastopol:
- Commonwealth Bank has been temporarily closed for about 6 months now with no sign of it ever reopening.
- Coles were going to renew and upgrade their store but this has been put on hold.
- Now the Post Office is closing with little notice.
The reason for all of the above is that the operators of these businesses see more profit to be made in the new Shopping Centre Town Centres rather than the older commercial centres.
The creation of these new Town Centres and large shopping centres, as well as the new housing development in these areas, is the whole reason why the Central Ballarat business centre and shopping precincts are dying and the CBD is dead.
Ballarat, stop expanding and consolidate around its central core.
Gregory Stewart, Sebastopol
Sebastopol post office is a vital resource for the community.
It's always busy with people paying bills, collecting and posting parcels.
The closure of this post office will be a major inconvenience for residents of Sebastopol.
Why haven't the community been consulted before this decision was made?
I think we're all sick and tired of big business removing facilities such as banks and now post offices, making life more difficult for all of us as long as they continue to rake in larger profit.
Angela McCarthy, Sebastopol
I am very disappointed to find our local Sebastopol post office to close.
It's about time thought was given to the older folk and disabled of the area, after all Sebastopol has the worst bus service in Australia.
I am 85 years old and I strongly protest this closure.
Kathleen Sanders, Sebastopol
As someone who has lost access to a local post office I know only too well the inconvenience.
With the growth of DTC and surrounding areas I am sure that there is enough to service both sites, I mean hell there's a McDonalds on every street corner these days.
