The well known Faux Social Club is currently undergoing a makeover and will re-open with a new look early in the new year.
Its owners, Teddy and Louis Powlett, say they were prompted to make the changes after having more time on their hands due to COVID-19.
As well as a different name and a fresh look, a big change will be a shift in opening hours to draw in the new GovHub workers after they shut down their computers in the afternoon.
"We have plans to extend the current hours of trade to allow for earlier trade for after work drinks," Louis Powlett told The Courier.
He said that while the venue will be opening in the afternoons, it will also retain its late licence.
They are calling the venue a cocktail bar and social club.
Mr Powlett also told The Courier they planned to re-open the kitchen - which did not feature as part of the Faux Social Club's set-up - to allow the venue to serve snacks.
He had been managing the Faux Social Club before COVID-19 forced its temporary closure, and is now a joint owner of the venue, along with his brother, Teddy.
IN OTHER NEWS
Teddy has already played a significant part in bringing new life to the local restaurant scene.
He owns the Moon & Mountain restaurant on the other side of the road, and is part of the recently opened Raggazones Italian restaurant, also on Mair Street. Another of his ventures, Winner Winner, opened on Armstrong Street last year.
Louis said the opening date for the successor to the Faux Social Club should happen early in the new year.
"We're shooting for the end of January, but we have not set a definite date yet," he said.
- A planning permit application to change the signage and paint colour of 209 Mair Street is currently being advertised on the City of Ballarat planning website.
