Shaun Finlayson will line up for Lakers after a decorated career with Bungaree.
Lake Wendouree lacks size and coach Dale Power said the veteran would provide a big body and add experience.
Finlayson, who is in his mid-30s, played in Bungaree's 2014 premiership side.
He had planned to join his former Bungaree coach Greg Middleton at Skipton in an assistant coaching role last year, but with COVID-19 this did not eventuate.
While Lakers are close to finalising their playing list after securing former Western Bulldogs player Fergus Greene as a part-time addition - he is playing with Box Hill Hawks in the VFL - Power said they remained in the market for a ruckman.
"We still don't have a full-time ruckman."
Lake Wendouree did recruit Josh McDermott from Beaufort for 2020, but he is moving to North Ballarat, and young tall Tom McKechie moved to Learmonth at the end of 2019.
Power said he believed Lakers had largely covered their losses from 2019.
Departures since then include veteran midfielders Shane Hutchinson and Ben Taylor, classy onballer Bailey Edwards and promising youngsters Scott Carlin and Kyle Raven.
He said it was all about trying to meet needs, while getting the right balance.
Lake Wendouree will resume training on Monday, February 1, with three practice matches planned.
The BFL season begins on Saturday, April 17
