Our lake is an absolute asset to our city. It is beautiful and serene by day and even more so by night. As a frequent user of the Moneghetti track, much of the time before dawn, l am extremely disappointed by the threat of the suggested lighting. In the opinion of the few avid users of the track prior to daylight there is absolutely no need for any more lighting. In fact even the 6 hip high bollards on the western side could be done without. The 1000w light above the barbecue near the playground is totally unnecessary, nobody uses the barbeque or playground after dark.
I recently asked the lady who also uses the track daily and has done for many years, about the trial lights situated near the Olympic rings. She, after l told her that these things would be all the way around the lake, was appalled and said "we'll need to wear sunnies"
Grow up Ballarat! Just because our state government has designated 2.5m dollars towards this ridiculous concept, does not mean it's right!
Not to mention, who the heck gets to pay for the electricity bill?
Global warming Is real.
Randal Thompson, Sebastopol.
Our Lake is becoming more and more compromised with so called people friendly interference. The ugly unhygenic unused gym equipment for example.
Daylight saving provides ample natural light for people to get out on the Lake in summer.
The animals and birds which are an integral part of the Lake should be paramount in all decisions such as unnecessary expensive lighting.
Jennifer McDougall, Lake Wendouree.
This is atrocious. Lights should be 1 metre high max, in grey-brown to blend with the landscape, and low key. It's not that hard! Look at 20 year old precedents in the NT please! Get this right.
Ailsa DuBois, Ballarat.
I imagine if people are half intelligent and driving at the speed limit, wildlife deaths would be avoided . The odd senseless halfwit I see driving the way they do should not be in charge of a motor vehicle . There's absolutely no reason to be speeding around the lake .
Gregory Patterson, Ballarat.
BALLARAT LINE UPGRADE
Completion of the current upgrade along the Ballarat rail corridor at the end of January 2021, is welcomed.
Duplication of the rail line between Deer Park West junction, near the present Caroline Springs station, to Melton station is an integral component of these works. It lays one more foundation toward improved passenger services to Ballarat, Maryborough and Ararat.
The late Neville Gower, former President of Western Improved Passenger Services (WIPS), had been one of the few advocates in the early 1980s for this work. He argued vehemently for this work to be funded. He would be relieved to know that this work was completed nearly forty years later.
Leah-anne Howie, Secretary WIPS.
