According to Regional Roads Victoria, the work will involve resurfacing the west side of the Sturt and Drummond Street intersection, which will take to four to six weeks.

Work will then resume on the shared path on the southern side of the median gardens.

Access to businesses and car parks in the area will not be impacted during the works, a media release states, while the speed limit will reduce to 40km/h and the right hand land west-bound on Sturt Street will be closed.

The traffic lights on Raglan Street are expected to be switched on in late March, Regional Roads Victoria's Grampians director Michael Bailey said.

"Once they're switched on, these new lights will make travelling along Sturt Street safer and easier for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians," he said in a statement.

This is one of the six north-south intersections to be improved as part of a $9.1 million commitment - traffic lights at Ripon Street and Ascot Street are now operational, and double U-turns were installed at Talbot, Errard, and Lyons streets. Windermere Street was also closed to traffic turning east.

In a separate project, work will soon resume to install traffic lights on Sturt Street West at the intersection with Morrison and Russell streets.

More work will also begin across the city later this year, including the $60m Keeping Ballarat Moving intersection upgrades.

IN THE NEWS

These include Gillies Street and Gregory Street in Wendouree, Hertford Street and Albert Street and Docwra Street in Sebastopol, Wiltshire Lane at the Glenelg Highway and Latrobe Street in Delacombe, and a new roundabout at Dyson Drive and Carngham Road.

Black Spot works are also expected to get under way soon at Soldiers Hill, Wendouree West, and Redan.
