I have been fortunate since I moved to Ballarat in being helped by people in times of need.
Here are some examples: Ten years ago, I was in the supermarket and discovered I had left my purse at home.
A lady paid for my groceries. I did not know her and she left before I could thank her.
At Stocklands, on January 20 this year, I was in my scooter and went to pick up my hat which had fallen onto the ramp in the Norman Street car park.
I fell, resulting in grazes and soft tissue damage.
A young man called Gareth with his baby son in a pusher, stopped and helped me, along with some other people who were passing by.
On January 23, my friend withdrew $200 from an ATM and didn't notice she'd accidentally dropped it on the ground.
While we were having coffee, a security guard and Kathy came and told us about it as they had seen it happen on CCTV.
We were so happy to get the money back.

On February 20, my husband and I were on Norman Street on our scooters when his scooter got stuck on a corner.
A very helpful young lady came and helped and we were able to keep going.
We often read about crime in this city, but we very rarely read about the seemingly little acts which make life worth living.
Thank you to these people and others who help make Ballarat a great place to live.
