Police allege John Knight "flew into a rage" at his partner's Bacchus Marsh home on March 9 and caused the woman "great fear of further violent offences".

Knight applied to be released on bail at the Ballarat Magistrates' Court on Friday, which the police opposed.

Nominal police informant Detective Sergeant Alana McDonald said from January, Knight sent a number of text messages to the victim wanting to rekindle their relationship and his contact increased through text messages, phone calls and visits to her address.

The court was told after the alleged victim returned home from the gym at 7pm on March 10, Knight allegedly became aggressive and demanded to discuss their relationship.

"When the victim refused, the accused flew into a rage calling her a selfish c***," Detective Sergeant McDonald said.

"The victim then went to her room to try and contact the police on her mobile phone and the accused followed her in before saying, 'If you try call the cops, I'll f***ing kill you'.

"The accused then jumped on top of her, pinning her to the bed preventing her from moving."

The alleged victim tried to escape the house another two times, but on one occasion, Knight allegedly chased her and grabbed her by the throat to stop her. She eventually managed to lock herself in her car before fleeing.

Knight's lawyer said her client had a static address, he intended to contest the charges which would cause a delay in the case proceeding, he could report to police and provide a $1000 surety.

Magistrate Noreen Toohey said the extremely serious offences had to be viewed in light of Knight's 12-page criminal history.

Bail was refused and Knight was remanded in custody until April. Knight, of Rockbank, faces eight charges including making a threat to kill, unlawful assault and false imprisonment.
