Among the estimated 25,600 people living with MS in Australia are 25-year-old WBBL cricketer Jemma Barsby, and kindergarten teacher and mum-of-four Maxine Gourley, 57.

Both have experienced the condition's common symptoms, including nerve pain and fatigue.

Sydneysider Ms Gourley lives with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RMS), the most common form of the disease, characterised by clearly-defined attacks of new or increasing neurological symptoms.

She has endured treatments including B-cell infusion therapy every five months and is keen to try an alternative, if viable.

A new at-home B-cell therapy is due on the market soon after receiving Therapeutic Goods Administration approval on March 3.

Global pharmaceutical giant Novartis on Sunday announced Kesimpta, a pre-dosed, self-administered injection, can be legally supplied to adults with RMS in Australia.

"I hate taking a day off work to go to the hospital," Ms Gourley said of her current treatment plan.

"If (my neurologist) recommends that and says 'let's see if that will curb those relapses' and 'let's keep this disease at bay' I would listen to him."

Treatment aside, Ms Gourley said the other battle for people living with MS, is explaining the illness, which impacts the body's central nervous system.

"An invisible disease is tricky," she said.

"Most people don't understand MS and even when you try to explain MS to people it's in one ear and out the other.

"They just go 'that's awful' and then they move on because they don't see it."

That's where sportswoman Barsby is playing a greater role, as ambassador for the Kiss Goodbye to MS campaign.

She had to Google what MS was when diagnosed by a Brisbane Heat team doctor at age 19.

"I count myself as one of the lucky ones," said the allrounder, and daughter of former Queensland player and coach Trevor Barsby.

"Even though I have MS, I do have it quite mild. I'm still able to do everything that I love."

The Adelaide-based cricketer, has previously dealt with pins and needles, blurry vision and numbness.

Nevertheless, she was one of the Heat's WBBL championship heroes in 2019 before crossing to the Perth Scorchers for the past two seasons.

With increased body temperature often a trigger for MS symptom flare-ups, Barsby has developed a regime of cold vests and slushies to stay on the field during the summer months.

"I'm lucky enough that cricket's been able to adapt for me."

Kiss Goodbye to MS is a fundraising endeavour aiming to raise money for research and promote public education about the illness.
