The all-rounder polled 15 votes and led from the front for his side, offering 267 runs in the middle order at a respectable 38.14.
O'Brien also picked up 24 wickets at an average of 15.29 - a feat that saw him walk away with the bowling aggregate award as well.
Alfonzo Soloman's impressive efforts with the bat saw him stroll to the batting aggregate award.

Golden Point's skipper plundered 443 runs at 55.37 in a season where he notched one century and five half-centuries.
In the under 17 2nd XI competition, top honours couldn't be split between Ballan's Kobe Heafield and Napoleons-Sebastapol's Luke Cassar, who both finished on 10 votes.
Cassar starred with the bat this summer, knocking 253 runs at 36, and chipped in with nine wickets.
Heafield stood up for his side when it mattered, scoring 184 runs at 26 and taking eight wickets.
It was a tight race for the under 15 XI best player award, with three players ultimately sharing the honour.
VRI Delacombe duo Darcy Aitken and Zane Attard were joined by Golden Point's Jake Klein on 14 votes.
Aitken's 286 runs also saw him take home the batting aggregate award.
His VRI Delacombe teammate Liam Moon won the bowling aggregate award with 14 wickets.
In the under 15 2nd XI competition, the best player award went to Ballan's Aussie McIlwaine with 17 votes.
McIlwaine also won the batting aggregate award with 299 runs, while Ballan teammate Laine Scott claimed the bowling aggregate award with Jack Jarvis.
In the under 13 Hollioake competition, Logan Attard's 360 runs for VRI Delacombe saw him win the batting aggregate award.
Ballarat-Redan's Laine Scott took out the bowling award with 14 wickets.
Mt Clear's Ned Mills won the under 13 Spratling competition's batting aggregate award, with 280 runs, while Napoleons-Sebastapol's Darcy Sheridan cleaned up the bowling aggregate award with 17 wickets.
