Firefighters first received the call about 8.10am for a house fire on Barkly Street, between Gladstone and Bradshaw streets.
At least five fire trucks attended the scene, with police and ambulance paramedics also in attendance.
The road was blocked to traffic in both directions.
The house appeared to be a weatherboard home, however it was difficult to see how much damaged had occurred from the street.

Paramedics were spotted at the scene treating firefighters.
It is not yet known how the fire started.
Ambulance Victoria reported two people were taken to hospital, although details of injuries were not known.
One was reported as a male in his 50s, but details were not available for the other person.
A spokesperson for Fire Rescue Victoria confirmed that no firefighters were hospitalised.
