Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman died following a collision in Ballarat Central on Friday morning.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives believe the 61-year-old Wendouree woman was struck by a garbage truck while crossing the road at the intersection of Doveton and Eyre streets about 8.35am.
The woman suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision and was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in critical condition, where she later died.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The driver of the truck, a 45-year-old Golden Point man, stopped to provide assistance and was taken to hospital for observation.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
Detectives are particularly looking to speak to a male witness who was travelling eastbound on Eyre Street in a gold or grey Toyota Camry when the incident occurred and stopped to assist.

EARLIER, APRIL 16:
A woman was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition being struck by a truck in central Ballarat Friday morning.
The woman, believed to be in her 60s, was on foot when the incident occurred at the intersection of Eyre and Doveton streets about 8.40am.
The truck driver stopped at the scene and was uninjured and is assisting police.
A City of Ballarat garbage truck was stopped on the side of the road on Eyre Street after the incident.

Items including a handbag and a reusable colourful plastic shopping bag were spread across the middle of the road near the pedestrian crossing across Eyre Street.
As of 11.45am, a crime scene was still in place while police tried to piece together what occurred.
Multiple police cars blocked Eyre Street between Doveton Street and Dawson Street South.
When The Courier was at the scene, a car even drove through the police roadblock and drove extremely close to a number of the items that are likely to be used as evidence.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit and Ballarat Highway are investigating.
The City of Ballarat said it was yet to determine if its truck was involved in the accident, but it was assisting authorities in their investigation.
