The pupils created a scale model of the school with the learning spaces they hope to see after Kart Architects were appointed to the upgrade. Students and school leaders will meet with the architects next week.
Principal Jenny Dyer said the overhaul, which will start next March, will see the school building gutted with new flooring and roofing installed, new drainage, classrooms opened up to a shared space, offices and planning space for teachers.
"We will have a beautiful contemporary learning environment and collaborative space for children to work in smaller groups, space to have guided and whole class teaching, a quiet space for children with special needs and improved acoustics and lighting," she said.
Classrooms currently lack good ventilation and natural light, with all the wooden windows on one side of the school painted shut, and the staff room doubles as the sickbay.
"This is a great opportunity for Linton Primary. Having Kart Architects appointed to design their newest school building is a very exciting stage," said Buninyong MP Michaela Settle. "It was fantastic to see how the students put together a model to show their ideas of a new school building."
Although the works will be extensive, Ms Dyer said students and staff would stay put during the renovations and work around the workmen.
Students and staff have adapted to having trades on site over the past few months with a "shelter in place" project just completed to ensure safety for the school community in the event of a bushfire.

"We've just spent $260,000 on shelter in place works which means this building has been made as fireproof as possible," Ms Dyer said.
"Because out at Linton we have had bushfires in the past ... if a bushfire does come through we've got shutters that go down on every window, fireproof doors and glass, and we would be perfectly protected inside the building," she said.
