Former Geelong star James Kelly has strengthened Gordon's run at an elusive CHFL premiership, signing on with the club for the remainder of 2021.
Kelly, a 313-game player with Geelong and Essendon, is good friends with fellow Eagles' recruit Shannon Byrnes and co-coach Ron Watt and has committed to playing the majority of the season, including finals.
Co-coach Adam Toohey told The Courier it was great to sign on someone of Kelly's calibre.
"Yeah it's an awesome get. His experience will be invaluable to the whole list. Plus the cleanliness with the ball and skills is going to be huge for us in the big games," he said.
"He's been keen as mustard which is huge. He's been saying how keen he is to play as much as possible. He doesn't want to be a guy filling in and stealing someone's spot."
Kelly is set to make his debut in round four against Newlyn at home.
The signing could not have come at a better time, as Gordon faces Buninyong, Dunnstown, Beaufort and Hepburn in the month following the clash with the Cats.
Toohey said Kelly will play an important role all over the ground, wherever he is needed.
"Haven't spoken too much about where he will line up yet. Don't think there will be a spot on the ground that we can put him that's not going to be an upgrade," he said.
