Solar and battery-generated power has been installed on six of the eight public buildings, all identified by Ballarat Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions, as part of the $1.1 million state government project.
McCallum Disability Services, Ballarat Table Tennis Association, Ballarat Regional Industries, Ballarat Squash and Racquetball Club, Cafs and the Ballarat General Cemetery have all had installations completed recently.
Meanwhile, installations have commenced on 49 Uniting Care properties across Ballarat and the Wimmera and by The Old Colonists' Association on 37 cottages at the Charles Anderson Grove Retirement Village.
BREAZE board member and project coordinator Peter Reid said each building's solar panel system was made to fit the organisation's present and future needs.
"For not-for-profits, it's a really good idea. It just reduces your operating costs. Instead of having to find that through membership fees or entrance fees or fundraising... it actually allows them to be more cost-effective with their money," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Ballarat Table Tennis Association stadium manager Adam Pegg said the savings would be 'amazing' for the organisation which has 54 fluorescent lights hanging over 27 tables.
"It's just investment back into the club... it's investing back into the stadium and the culture so that we can provide a better service for our members," he said.
Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison said the funding was part of a $10.3 million investment into solar power on public buildings across the state.
"This is a really intelligent investment where we're reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, we're using the environment and we are making our organisations in a stronger position financially to be able to continue to do the great work that they do," she said.
