A black Holden Maloo ute has been impounded by police after being busted travelling at extreme speeds in Smythes Creek.

State Highway Patrol officers allegedly detected a driver travelling at 102km/h in a 60km/h zone on Cherry Flat Road, near Delacombe Town Centre on Wednesday.
Police intercepted the ute and the driver underwent an oral fluid test which returned a positive result.

The 36-year-old from Smythes Creek had his car immediately impounded and faces towing costs of $1325.
He is expected to be charged with numerous traffic offences including exceeding speed limit and driving with a cancelled licence.
This intercept forms part of Operation Amadeus which is targeting speeding and impaired drivers in rural areas.
