The Lakers have unveiled 12 debutants across their first two games, blending a mix of proven VFL experience and threatening up-and-comers that ultimately drove the side to a seven-point win against North Ballarat.
It wasn't always going to be a sure thing, though.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Despite clubs' wishes often recruits, or promoted juniors, don't have immediate impacts, demanding a measured and responsive approach from coaches.
Lake Wendouree coach Dale Power expected the result to galvanise a new-look list.
"It's really a challenge as a coaching group to get 12 new guys into our system and our way of football," he told The Courier.
"I think the win will be enormous for the group.
"We played all of our Rebels kids that came back as well. We gave them opportunities, and they rewarded us with high performances.
"(A win like that) really steals the young guys together. I'd imagine they'd grow a great lot of belief (out of the win), but time will tell."
With the NAB League on hold for another two weeks, the Lakers will have some of their best young talent at their disposal.
GVW Rebels key forward Joshua Rentsch played his first game for Lake Wendouree and was named his side's best.
Rebels teammate Kai Lohmann was also named in the best, while fellow NAB League talent Flynn Loader and Sam Butler had strong showings.
"All the Rebels players contributed really well," Power said. "It's a credit to their fitness and their focus to come back to club level and provide outstanding performances for us."
Power's charges are hoping to capitalise against an under-firing Ballarat on Saturday night, a spot in the top four a possibility with a big win.
"The midfield battles are always the catalyst for us to create enough opportunities," Power said.
"We had 29 scoring shots (against North Ballarat) which the most pleasing thing for us.
"Over my three years, we've really struggled to hit the scoreboard, so to have that many scoring shots is evidence of a half-back line that is rebounding well, a midfield group that is giving us good supply and forwards that are quite proactive.
"That's where we're focused.
"You know, you can focus on the opposition, it's important to understand how they go about it, but with such a young list, we're really focused on their development and progression."
