Three intersections, at Ascot, Raglan and Ripon streets, have had traffic lights installed, while three more, at Errard, Talbot and Lyons streets, have been converted to U-turn only configurations.
The improvements come after 135 people were injured as a result of 85 crashes at these intersections between 2011 and 2017, ranking them among the worst black spots in western Victoria.

The Sturt Street median strip has also been extended across Windermere Street with a new shared path also set to provide a safer journey for cyclists and pedestrians in Ballarat's CBD.
Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison said the improvements would benefit all road users.
"The incredible staff at the Ballarat West Post Office were the first to respond to so many accidents. They were the ones calling the ambulance, they were the ones calling the truck drivers," she said.
"I popped over to see them this morning to ask how things have gone since these traffic lights were turned on and they said they have not seen Mick the tow truck driver since.
"This is a good outcome for Ballarat. It's a good outcome for the post office. Not so good for Mick the tow truck driver, but we'll take that as a win anyway."
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll said the upgrades would make Sturt Street safer and encourage more people to walk or ride.
"Delivering upgrades to Ballarat's CBD to make it safer benefits the whole community - making it a safer and more accessible place is good for locals and the growing economy," he said.
