Byrnes made his debut for the Eagles in their round one 68-point smashing of Skipton but has not been sighted since, owing to Melbourne Demons duties at AFL level.

Kelly made his debut for the club in round four, slotting in beautifully down back to assist in the 101-point win over 2019 preliminary finalists Newlyn.

The pair will now run out together in one of Gordon's biggest tests to date, as it takes on Buninyong.

"It will be awesome, it'll be good fun," Kelly told The Courier.

Co-coach Ron Watt said it was great for the club to see the two friends out on the field together.

"They're great players and even more so they're great people. To have them around the club has been fantastic for the whole group," he said.

"They've both been at training and helping out with different components of the game and brought a lot of knowledge to the place already.

"They're as keen as anything to get out there and play together."

Gordon is off to a flyer in the Central Highlands Football League, sitting 4-0 and first on the ladder.

It's fixture doesn't get any easier, however, as it takes on Buninyong this weekend.

"We're expecting they'll be pretty tough opposition," Watt said.

"Their results so far have indicated that they're, again, going to be up around the mark.

"We'll be really keen to have a good strong hit-out."
