Beaufort export Matt Crouch is in doubt to feature this season, with the star Adelaide midfielder set for surgery on a troublesome groin.
The 26-year-old has not played since a Crows' pre-season game in March and had been nearing a return before his latest setback.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The All-Australian had upped his workloads and joined main training sessions last week before his groin soreness flared up again.
The decision was made to operate after consultations with a specialist and the club's medical team.
"Unfortunately, Matt's groin injury has not responded as well as we had hoped," Crows head of football Adam Kelly said.
"Matt is an important player and one of our leaders, so we look forward to him recovering and returning to play the quality football we know he is capable of."
Meanwhile, East Point junior Harry Sharp will undergo surgery after suffering an ankle injury during Brisbane's VFL game at the weekend.
The 2020 draftee faces three months on the sidelines.
"Harry went in an ambulance because there was a chance he had broken his ankle. The good news is he hadn't, but he's had some ligament damage, and that will take about three months to repair," Lions high performance manager Damien Austin said.
The news isn't much better for a fellow GWV Rebels alum in the Lions' camp, either.
Brisbane coach Chris Fagan has conceded there is no return date in sight for Jarrod Berry.
The former Rebels captain has played just three games this season after problems with a persistent groin injury.
"He still looks like he's a little way off," Fagan said.
"I couldn't make a prediction on when he'd be available. I dare say when he is, he's going to have to play in the reserves for a week or two depending on how we're travelling at the time with our own injuries."
At St Kilda, Rowan Marshall will spend four-to-six weeks out with a plantar fascia injury, and Brad Crouch will undergo a last-minute fitness test after fracturing his cheekbone during the Saints' loss at the weekend.
Carlton recruit Oscar McDonald (back) faces a further eight-to-twelve weeks out.
