Coach Peter Forbes told The Courier it was a tough contest.
"Over the years we've had a lot of respect for Melton and a lot of good competition from them," he said.
"We enjoy playing them, you always know you're in for a good competitive game."
It was the third quarter that seperated Redan from the home side, kicking 3.3 to a single behind to take a 20-point lead into the three-quarter time break.
Forbes said the dominant quarter was thanks to their movement ahead of the ball and defensive effort.
"We just got a bit more movement in the forward line. We ran it up into the forward line a bit deeper ... put them under pressure," he said.
"This was the first game where our backline has been tested and they held up very well."
In other results, Carisbrook claimed its second win of the season in a tight five-point affair over Bacchus Marsh.
It's the second week in a row the Cobras have lost a game by under a goal.
Darley made light work of Lake Wendouree at home, 27.24 (186) to 0.2 (2).
Kim Bessell extended her buffer as the league's leading goal-kicker with 13 majors.
Madalyn Clarke and Crystal Layton troubled the scoreboard also, with five and four goals respectively.
Sebastopol continued its strong start to the season, keeping Melton to one point and piling on 79 of its own.
