The final scoreline read 16.20 (116) to 6.1 (37), an opportunity for a 100-point win gone begging due to some wayward kicking.

Vincent Huf was superb on debut, kicking five goals in a near best on ground performance.

Huf was called up to the under 19 side from the under 17 squad.

Sam Butler, one of the Rebels better players on the day, got them off to a flyer, kicking two goals in five minutes to hand them a 14-point lead midway through the first term.

They were important goals as the Rebels couldn't manage to kick the ball between the big sticks to start the game.

Joshua Rentsch couldn't buy a goal, hitting the post three times in the first quarter, Jake Drever added a poster also.

Wayward goal kicking remained an issue for the boys throughout the game and was the only blight on an otherwise strong performance.

Despite kicking 20 behinds, it seemed like everyone was getting in on the goal kicking action.

Backmen Angus Bade and Sam Breuer kicked a goal each in the second term.

They were part of five straight goals by the Rebels in the quarter after the Power kicked the opening two majors to bring the margin back to four points.

It helped the side to a 35-point lead at half-time, a lead that only grew in the second half.

The dominance on the scoreboard in the final two quarters was thanks mostly to the Rebels defence, keeping Gippsland to just two goals.

Joshua Gibcus and Hamish Sinnott dominated in the air, taking a handful of intercept marks each.

The rest of the backline group in Breuer, Bade, Jack Bambury, Isaac Lovison and Blake Scott played their roles strongly, defending well and not giving their opponents any easy balls.

The win lifts the Rebels back to the top of the ladder, overtaking Bendigo who lost to Geelong in the early game at Mars Stadium.

They'll now turn their attention to the Northern Knights Saturday, June 19 at Mars Stadium.
