The Emus trailed by six points at half-time, however rallied to kick four goals to one in the second half to win 5.8 (38) to 3.12 (30).

The first half was seemingly reminiscent of Richmond's performance against St Kilda on Friday night, a 2.4 (16) to 1.4 (10) half-time lead to Daylesford nothing to feel comfortable about.

Skipton co-coach Sam Willian, who missed the game due to concussion, told The Courier it was a change of game plan at half-time that got the ball rolling for his side.

"We tried to play our brand of footy at the start of the game but got to half-time and eventually said 'we're just going free-for-all, just try get the ball moving forward and just play wet weather footy," he said.

"I think that's eventually what changed the game for us, just playing that territory game."

Skipton found its groove in the third term while Daylesford couldn't buy a goal, four goals to 0.6 the Emus way handing them a two-goal lead at the final change.

The ball would only find its way through the big sticks in the fourth quarter once, helping the Bulldogs cut the lead slightly.

Skipton's four behinds were enough to stem the tide and help it hold on for an eight-point victory.

As is the case for a handful of sides fighting for top eight spots, the next month presents winnable games for Skipton and the chance to cement its place inside the top eight.

Carngham-Linton, Waubra, Bungaree and Springbank are to come, the latter two specifically finding some form in recent weeks.

As for Daylesford, it now finds itself 13th on the ladder with two wins from eight games.

The top eight isn't out of the equation, but this loss coupled with a missed opportunity against Waubra in round nine hasn't made the climb any easier.

Bungaree is up next, presenting a great opportunity to beat a side around it on the ladder and steady the ship.

Springbank, Newlyn, Buninyong and Gordon in the ensuing four weeks will test the Bulldogs but wins in that run could help them make a late run at the eight.
