David Andrew Hastings, of Lucas, fronted Ballarat Magistrates' Court on Thursday morning for a filing hearing.
He is due to return to court on September 9 for a committal mention.
He is facing the single charge of dangerous driving causing death.

Victoria Police announced they had charged Hastings on Wednesday evening.
Hasting's bail was extended on Thursday morning, with conditions including living at his address in Lucas and surrendering his passport.
Nick Kennedy, the Creswick man who was killed in the incident, was aged 59.
EARLIER, WEDNESDAY EVENING: Major collision investigation unit detectives have charged a man following an investigation into a fatal collision at Trawalla in October last year.
A roadworker died after being stuck by a car on the Western Highway just before 7.30 on the morning of the October 21.
Police said it is believed the roadworker was in the process of setting up for traffic control duties along the on-ramp to the Western Highway.
The driver of a Toyota utility, allegedly involved in the incident, stopped and rendered assistance however the 59-year-old Creswick man died at the scene.
A 40-year-old Lucas man has since been charged with dangerous driving causing death.
Police said the man will face Ballarat Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
