The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for much of the state, including Ballarat, with damaging winds expected on Saturday.

The bureau expects a 'vigorous' north-westerly wind to develop across the state with a cold front entering from the west of the state later in the day.
The north-westerly winds are expected to average 50 to 60km/h with peak gusts of 90km/h forecast to develop across the warning area from the west during Saturday morning.

Wind gusts of more than 100km/h in the state's alpine areas and the peaks of the Grampians.
Affected locations including Ballarat, Daylesford and Bacchus Marsh.
The State Emergency Service advised people should: pull over if driving conditions are dangerous, avoid travel if possible, check loose items such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured., move vehicles under cover or away from trees and stay indoors if possible.
People are also encouraged to monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website, app or hotline.
