AV has made the call not to reschedule the annual 15km road race contested around Lake Wendouree for later in the season.
"Regrettably, we have decided to cancel this weekend's XCR round scheduled for Ballarat due to the associated administration time scales (associated with COVID-19 restrictions) as well as the inclement weather predicted for Ballarat and across Victoria this weekend."
It has not been included in a revised XCR'21 program.
Athletics Victoria events fall under community sport restrictions within the COVID-19 public events framework, given the size and scale of races.
The revised XCR'21 series for the rest of the season:
Saturday, August 7: St Annes Myrniong - junior 4km/6km and under-20/open/masters 8km Individual cross country.
Sunday, August 15: Lakeside10 - junior 3km and open/masters 10km
Saturday, August 28:- Bundoora State Cross Country Championships - junior and open age groups, all-schools.
Sunday, September 5: Burnley 5km and 15km - junior 5km and open/masters 15km
Saturday, September 11: Tan Relays - all ages
Sunday, September 19: Burnley Half Marathon - open/masters
Ballarat entries will be transferred to the Burnley 15km.
AV sport delivery and government general manager Ross Cunningham said the new schedule provided a clear pathway with emphasis on supporting transition in cross country towards Bundoora as well as the 3km and 10km at Albert Park, the 5km and 15km at Burnley leading into the half marathon and Tan Relays to round off the season.
