The five-year-old ended a run of five minor placings in the Jockeys Celebration Day Sprint, 1100m.
"It's a bit of weight off the shoulders to be honest," Freedman said.
"He deserved to win a race like this.
"He's racing so much better than he was last time around when he had few things go against him." he told racing.com.
"He might get accused of being a bridesmaid and non-trier, but he's putting everything into his races at the moment and things just haven't gone his way."
Zorro's Dream ($8.50) raced with cover just off the pace, before charging in the closing stages when a gap appeared and he went to the line a half-length clear of Teramia ($11), with Modear ($17) third.
Freedman said Zorro's Dream only possessed a short, sharp sprint and going to 1100m had suited him.
Freedman said the son of Toronado had had a week on the beach in the care of David Noonan leading into the Flemington assignment.
He said Noonan had done a lot of work with Zorro's Dream this time around and it had probably been the difference in it.
While Zorro's Dream has had a lenghy preparation, Freedman is looking to keep him going.
"Everything he's doing at the moment suggests that he can keep going.
"We're mindful that he's probably not up to spring grade, so while we have a fit horse on the scene we might take on some of those which are returning and see how we go," Freedman said.
Ballarat's Will Price, who was Victoria's leading apprentice jockey last season, took the ride.
Zorro's Dream is raced by a large ownership ground managed by Ballarat syndicator Wylie Dalziel Roy Higgins Racing.
He has now won four of 18 starts and been placed 12 times.
This was his first metropolitan success.
