The extension will take Tymms into his sixth year with the Bloods, having first joined as an assistant coach under Brad Murphy.
Tymms took over as senior coach in 2018 and guided the club to a grand final in his first year in charge.
It was followed by a preliminary final appearance in 2019.
Despite a second-place finish, the 2021 season has proven to be one of the hardest for Tymms and Melton.
The Bloods lost two players to season-ending injuries early, before Dyson Stevens suffered severe spinal damage in a freak accident during the Bloods' win against Darley.
Tymms joins a host of coaches re-signing for the 2022 season. Joe Carmody and Travis Hodgson and have signed on for two more seasons with Ballarat and Sunbury respectively, while Tom German has committed to another year with Bacchus Marsh.
