Investigations have begun after a woman died in custody at the Ballarat police station on Friday.

According to Victoria Police Media, the 50-year-old Ballarat woman was taken into custody on Thursday, August 26 and was remanded to appear in court Friday.
She was found unresponsive when police attended her cell to escort her to court.
Paramedics were immediately called and officers commenced CPR.
Paramedics were unable to revive the woman and she died a short time later.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad will investigate the death, with oversight from Professional Standards Command.
This is standard protocol when a person has died in police custody, according to the media release.
