The Courier understands community leaders have been inundated with calls as to how they might show vaccination proof, which will soon be the pass to entry to major events, travel and dining out in a major step towards lockdowns easing.
The Victorian government has confirmed the process is under way to develop a pilot program for a vaccine economy - opening more to double-jabbed - and regional areas have been touted as potential test sites.
Here is what we know:
How can I access my immunisation record?
Log on to your Medicare online account, Medicare app or MyGov account. You will need both a MyGov and Medicare online account to access the app.
Then what?
You can add your COVID-19 digital certificate to your digital wallet via the Medicare app or online account by selecting immunisation history, your name and then saving to Apple Wallet or to our phone for Google Pay (Android).
What if I do not have a smart phone or want a digital COVID-19 pass?
You can get a paper copy by calling the Australian Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809 with your Medicare Card details and request a copy of their Immunisation History Record be sent to your home. You can also do this for children.
How long will it take for proof to arrive?
It can take up to 10 days for your vaccination provider to give details to Australian Immunisation Register for it to appear on your record. You will get a message via MyGov account when ready for digital download. It takes up to two weeks for the paper certificate to arrive by mail.
What does it show?
Your immunisation history statement shows all your registered immunisations. For COVID-19 vaccinations, it should show the number of doses, dates of jabs and vaccine brand (AstraZeneca, Pfizer or Moderna).
You can ask a vaccine provider to add any COVID-19 immunisations made overseas to your record if they are one of the three approved in Australia and delivered after October 1, 2020.
How will the pass work to get me into a pub or event?
The Victorian government has not yet made clear how the system will work in this state or how/whether this might work with QR codes to check-in. Moonee Valley Racing Club has pitched to the government to make its Cox Plate Carnival on October 23 one of the state's first events with attendees needing double-vaccination proof. The club is suggesting QR code use.
When do passports start?
Details are not yet available on a regional passport trial. The government has flagged some restrictions might ease in regional Victoria later this week.
