Premier Daniel Andrews said on Wednesday that it was unlikely that current restrictions would be eased further in regional Victoria before the end of the month.

As it stands, teams are free to train with the minimum number required to train.

If an announcement is made allowing community sport to return to play on the first weekend of October, a grand final could be played for the Central Highlands football and netball leagues.

Gordon and Hepburn have begun preparation for a possible return.

"We were very pleased ... for our group and for our whole club, we've worked for 30-odd years since winning a premiership to put our best foot forward in a long time this year," Eagles coach Adam Toohey said.

"It would have been very disappointing if we didn't get a result at the end of it, or an opportunity to get a result."

Burra co-coach Jason Olver praised the CHFL for getting the competition to this point.

"I think the league have been unbelievable," he said.

"We're rapt that they've done that, so we couldn't speak highly enough of what the league have done so far."

He added the scenario of playing a decider after so many weeks off will be tough.

"We are in a good position obviously with the way it's worked out but it's not ideal either, you want to get games under your belt to go into a grand final if you can actually advance that far," he said.

"It's going to be hard to just come up after seven weeks for one game of footy, but we planned for this pre-season, knowing we had to finish top two."

Toohey said the motivation levels of his side are pretty strong.

"You don't realise how much you love training and getting around the boys until it's not there and you lose that connection," he said.

"I think overall we've been pretty good, everyone's posting their runs and stuff."

Olver echoed Toohey's comments.

"They've been better this time around purely because its finals," he said.

Buninyong netball coordinator Rebecca Atkinson said the club's A Grade side is ready to roll if required.

"We're excited if it does go ahead because we haven't played Hepburn all year," she said.

"It would be an awesome match to see the two top teams in action in the A Grade.

"They're excited to play if we can play, definitely."

Coach Meg Gilbert confirmed the side will begin training next week.

Hepburn A Grade coach Gary Cooke admitted it will be tough to play a grand final with no match fitness leading into the game.

"If they don't relax anything until the end of September and ... we're meant to go into a grand final the following week, it's going to be really tough on everybody, because no one's had any game fitness," he said.

"You've got some people who (have) completely lost interest, you've got some people that (are) keen to do it again.

"If we had a definite message tomorrow from the league saying 'it is 100 per cent on', I think you might (see) some people get motivation back.

"If it does go ahead, it would be great ..."
