I totally agree, the lights are set for twenty something people, not us old folk.
I do not use the light systems any more as if you are still crossing on a flashing red, you take your life in your hands.
I am 85, fit and able, so I take great care and cross away from the lights much quicker and safer.
Stanley Cole, Ballarat.
I'm a 6'3", fast walker and can't get across at Sturt and Pleasant streets before the flashing red appears.
If people in cars actually realised you don't have to stop in the median on Pleasant Street then the green turn arrow wouldn't be needed, adding plenty of time for pedestrians.
Chris Wesley, Ballarat.
I agree with the concerns about timing on pedestrian lights. Especially the lights on Sturt and Drummond Streets, if you are coming from the La Porchetta side to the Shell Servo side.
I've almost been hit a few times. I've been half way across the intersection and the man changes to red, the cars turning right are too busy trying to cut in front of oncoming traffic and don't see pedestrians walking across the road.
Someone abused me as I was walking across the road just as the man changed to red.
I'm able bodied, so I feel for the elderly who try to cross the road.
I now won't use that set of lights, I walk across to Celebrations, then across the other set of lights.
Mel Helby, Ballarat.
