Ballarat police are hunting a man 'with a distinctive limp' who allegedly stole a Mercedes Benz hatch last week, and attempted to use the victim's bank card to pay for petrol.

A CCTV image shows the man entering a Ballarat North petrol station about 7am on September 4.
He's wanted in connection to an alleged burglary on September 3, about 10.15pm.
Police also shared an image of the vehicle, a 2018 Mercedes Benz hatch, black with distinctive gold trim, with registration ASM-826.

"This male has a distinctive limp to his left leg, and we are confident that somebody in our community will be able to identify him," police state.
